This past week’s lesson I loved. It probably is my favorite lesson that we have done. This one was the Calcium lesson again. I enjoy this lesson because the children learn there are alternatives to getting calcium into their diets by foods other than just dairy.
The way we set the lesson up this time around went better than last time. We were able to go over the ingredients that we put into the smoothie in better detail. As some of us were setting up the smoothie, the rest of us went over MyPlate with the two groups that we put the children into. After that we did the calcium bingo. The children were more excited to see a pineapple or watermelon as a prize than they were to play the game! As the kids were playing, we passed out the smoothies. Some did not want to try it at first because they did not like some of the ingredients but when they saw others trying it, they at least took a sip.
This week’s lesson went much smoother this time around (pun intended!) We are really learning how to take a lesson and plan it out according to the amount of children, age range, or the behavior of the children. Being able to do hands on learning is the best way to learn. This class definitely prepares me more for post-graduation than any lecture I have taken!
